PTCB Exam testing - when / where?
PTCB exams are administered on Saturdays in March,
July and November. PTCB exam testing occurs at 120 test
centers in the United States. Some locations offer Sunday testing dates.
The tests are administered by Professional Examination Service (PES),
under contract with the PTCB. This company also scores
the PTCB exam and distributes the scoring reports.
Who can take the PTCB exam?
You must have a high school diploma or GED, clear of any felony convictions,
to be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
How do I apply to take the PTCB exam?
Registration for the PTCB exam is available online
www.ptcb.org. Your online PTCB exam registration follows
the same timeline as the paper application process. The PTCB exam registration
deadline is midnight EST. You may request paper application materials
at www.ptcb.org or by calling PTCB at
(202) 429-7576.
How much does the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination cost?
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination has a $120 fee.
What is a pharmacy technician?
Pharmacy technicians work in a pharmacy and are supervised by a licensed
pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians assist the Pharmacist
in serving patients, maintaining medication and iInventory control systems,
and participate in the administration and management of the pharmacy.
What does a pharmacy technician do - and who decides what he/she may
do?
Laws and regulations, pharmacy job descriptions, and individual company
policieswill specifiy the duties and responsibilities of the pharmacy

Does it matter if I have certification?
Successfully passing the PTCB exam, and meeting all
eligibility requirements, allows you to use the designation "CPhT". Newly
Certified Pharmacy Technicians receive a certificate and card identifying
their certification.
How long does PTCB certification last?
Your PTCB certification lasts for two years.
Can I just show up and take the PTCB exam?
No - you must register and have an 'admission' ticket to take the
PTCB exam
Does certification as a pharmacy technician cover each state?
The PTCB exams are a national certification process and your certification
is valid in all states. Do be aware that certification doesn't mean you
shouldn't check into employment and pharmacy requirements for the state
in which you intend to work. Contact the state pharmacy board or visit
www.nabp.org.
Is there a way I can practice for the PTCB exam? Are there PTCB practice
tests?
There is a PTCB exam practice test (see our link here)
that is an online practice test. The PTCB exam practice test is similar
to the actual examination, and covers pertinent areas of study.
What happens after two years and my PTCB exam certification expires?
You can renew your certification by having completed a total of twenty
hours in pharmacy-related continuing education. At least one hour must
be in pharmacy law. |
